Football Forecast: Week 11

Week 11
With the way things have been rolling the last few weeks we almost wish the regular season would continue on. Our staff was only mere percentage points from the record performance of the week before, hitting a blistering .876. Several big games on tap this week so here we go.
Last Week: 148-21 (.876)
Season: 1262-279 (.819)

The Fab Five

Mustang at Broken Arrow
Our Take: (Class 6A) Facing one of the perennial beasts of the east is nothing new to Mustang, which has pushed both Union and Owasso already this season before dropping narrow decisions it led in the fourth quarter of each. It's also a similar position for the Broncos, which fell to Broken Arrow, 43-20, in the playoffs a season ago. This is a much more experience Bronco squad with junior QB Chandler Garrett throwing for 2,156 yards and 18 touchdowns while Chase Brown has added 1,267 yards and 15 scores on the ground. Broken Arrow is paced by Jamall Shaw's 1,309 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing and has scored at least 34 points in every game not against Jenks, Union or Owasso.
Our Pick: Broken Arrow 27, Mustang 21

Westmoore at Owasso
Our Take: (Class 6A) Owasso has had the top statistical defense in Class 6A Division I all season, yielding just 13 points a contest. The Rams thrive on turnovers, spurred by Michael Anderson, and will definitely put the heat on Westmoore signal-caller Bryson Lee, who has thrown for 1,995 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has torched most everyone on the Jaguars' schedule with the exception of eastern juggernauts Jenks and Broken Arrow, in which they were outscored a combined 83-10 and Lee had several of his 11 interceptions on the season. Expect turnovers to again be the difference.
Our Pick: Owasso 34, Westmoore 14

Shawnee at Coweta

Our Take: (Class 5A) Coweta got hot at the right time, winning five of its final six games including four straight to secure a home playoff contest. During that stretch the Tigers managed to shore up a shaky defense, allowing less than 20 points in its final four outings. Problem for Coweta is that none of those teams have the firepower that Shawnee possesses with a healthy John Jacobs. The East Carolina commit has thrown for 1,557 yards and 14 touchdowns in just eight games. The Wolves also haven't allowed more than 27 points except to McAlester. Defensive stops will likely be a premium.
Our Pick: Shawnee 41, Coweta 35

Poteau at Oologah
Our Take: (Class 4A) On the field Oologah was the district champion but due to an inelgible player in four games were relegated to the number two slot and a matchup with a dangerous Poteau squad that reached the state finals a year ago. Poteau QB Ben Klutts has thrown for 1,268 yards and 14 touchdowns while Roger Barcheers has contributed 1,572 yards rushing and 16 scores for a Pirate offense which averages more than 35 points an outing. Fort Gibson has been the only Oklahoma team to be able to slow Poteau. Oologah meanwhile hasn't lost on the field since opening defeats at the hands of 5A district champs Collinsville and Skiatook. QB Payton Craig sparks the Mustangs' offensive attack.
Our Pick: Oologah 24, Poteau 23

Victory Christian at Berryhill

Our Take: (Class 3A) Berryhill was riding high and undefeated before last week's 12-10 loss to Lincoln Christian knocked them into this tough playoff opener. The Chiefs have one of the best defenses in Class 3A, holding opponents to an average of 12.7 points per outing, but haven't faced any opponent with the offensive prowess of Victory Christian. Conqueror signal-caller Keats Calhoon is one of the best in the state with 2,748 yards passing, 23 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 295 attempts. After a bit of a midseason swoon they look to be hitting their stride with 69, 48 and 58 points the past three weeks. Ty Walker and the Berryhill offense will have to be up to the task.
Our Pick: Berryhill 30, Victory Christian 28

Must be nice to only have to compete against 15 other teams for a state championship. In small school basketball, we have to compete against 95 other teams.

It is sad when a coach can say they are ranked 15th in the state that does not sound good when there is only 16 teams
