Football Forecast: Week 7

Week 7
Apparently the Triple 7s of a week ago were lucky after all as our staff returned to a season-best .827 percentage for the week, missing only two games in 6A and 4A and just one in Class C. Looks like a few bigger district showdowns this week which will make it more interesting in the quest for an .800 average for the season.
Last Week: 139-29 (.827)
Season: 680-184 (.787)

The Fab Five

Owasso at Union
Our Take: (Class 6A) There shouldn't be the normal Union-Jenks type intimidation factor in this one as Owasso has already slayed Jenks on the way to a 6-0 start. The Rams also won't be swayed by Union, which they defeated two of the past three seasons. Outside of a 45-20 win at Norman North, the Rams have allowed less than 10 points in every other game this season, including a 7-6 triumph against Jenks. It's that defense that was the difference despite scoring just 14 points against Broken Arrow, 13 vs. Southmoore and 7 against Jenks. There hasn't been anybody that has stopped the Union offense either as the Redskins average more than 44 points per contest. Union's lowest scoring total was 24 points against Jenks.
Our Pick: Union 24, Owasso 21

Lawton Mac at Ardmore
Our Take: (Class 5A) Ardmore has been one of the surprise teams of the season in Class 5A with a strong rushing attack that has averaged 384 yards and just shy of 39 points a contest. The Tigers have scored at least 27 points in every contest and haven't had a game closer than their nine-point win over rival Ada in Week 1. O.J. Walker leads that charge with 643 yards on the ground and six touchdowns while averaging a whopping 13.7 yards per carry. Senior QB Will Collins is the catalyst for a Lawton Mac offense that has been stellar in its own right with nearly 47 points an outing. A narrow 28-26 win at Altus in Week 5 is the only time the Highlanders have been held under 35 points. Expect some fireworks.
Our Pick: Lawton Mac 42, Ardmore 35

Metro Christian at Fort Gibson
Our Take: (Class 4A) Both teams have been virtually unstoppable offensively, although they get there in much different ways. Abe Anderson fuels a high-flying Metro offense with 1,578 yards passing and 17 touchdowns. His favorite target Jake Koenig has 26 catches for 511 yards and four scores. For Fort Gibson's rush-heavy arsenal, it Chris Walker that spurs the charge with 1,092 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Metro has scored at least 32 points every game this season while Fort Gibson has scored at least 28. Can you say shootout?
Our Pick: Fort Gibson 34, Metro Christian 33

Cordell at Apache
Our Take: (Class A) A year ago, Apache rolled Cordell, 48-7, en route to the state finals. You can probably rest assured the Blue Devils have not forgotten that contest heading into this week's showdown of unbeatens. At 6-0, Cordell has already eclipsed last year's win total and have been tremendous, especially on the offensive side of the ball with just under 41 points per game. Apache meanwhile has been even more dominant, scoring at least 43 points in every game this year. While the offense has put up big numbers on a weekly basis, its the Warrior defense that has keyed the landslide, yielding 14 points or less in every outing. That defense is the difference.
Our Pick: Apache 38, Cordell 20

Tulsa Memorial at Skiatook
Our Take: (Class 5A) Memorial may be unscathed at 6-0 but has shown some chinks in the armor with three straight nailbiters against opponents with .500 records or worse. The Chargers average nearly 44 points a contest with Oklahoma State baseball commit Trevor Boone leading the charge at quarterback. They've given up at least 20 points each of the past three weeks, however, which probably doesn't bode well against a Skiatook offense that is riding high fresh off an upset win at McAlester. Skiatook standout Kyle McLaughlin leads Class 5A statewide with 1,005 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. Memorial squeezed out a 25-23 victory last season.
Our Pick: Skiatook 33, Tulsa Memorial 28
