Football Forecast: Week 4

Week 4
A much better showing for us last week as we inched closer to that 80 percent mark. Things start to get serious for everybody this week with the start of district play for most of the state. We'll see if our staff can continue that upward march or get humbly sacked for a loss.
Last Week: 138-39 (.780)
Season: 261-91 (.742)

The Fab Five

Owasso at Norman North
Our Take: (Class 6A) Has there been a better defensive effort than that shown by Owasso over the first three games of the year? All the Rams have done is yield 13 points against a slate which has included powerhouses Broken Arrow and Jenks. That unit gets another major test facing a Norman North offense that has poured in 40 points a game and almost 473 yards of offense. The Timberwolves haven't been held under 37 points in any game spurred by senior John Kolar and his 856 yards passing, nine scores and .518 completion rate. North however hasn't faced a defense anywhere close to the Rams.
Our Pick: Owasso 21, Norman North 14

Oklahoma Christian at Millwood
Our Take: (Class 2A) Impressive has to be an understatement when describing Oklahoma Christian's 3-0 start. The Saints have thumped perennial powers Ringling and Lincoln Christian as well as posting a strong triumph on the road at Metro Christian. Junior quarterback Thomas Qualls has been the catalyst of an offensive unit which has averaged more than 36 points against some pretty good defensive units. Qualls has thrown for 416 yards and is also a threat to run. They'll get another major test in the early season gauntlet against a Millwood club that is still smarting from last week's 21-6 loss to Cascia Hall. The Falcons never could get much going against the Commandos and could face difficulty against a Saints' unit that has yielded just eight points outside of a 32-point eruption from Metro Christian. It's just week one of the district schedule but look for this one to decide the district crown and possibly be a preview of a playoff matchup down the road.
Our Pick: Oklahoma Christian 21, Millwood 20

Edmond Santa Fe at Edmond Memorial
Our Take: (Class 6A) Santa Fe's offense has been versatile and explosive with nearly 37 points an outing. Darran Williams leads the rushing attack which totals more than 210 yards a contest with QB Keaton Torre also throwing for another 236 an outing. Memorial meanwhile has a chance for the Edmond sweep after having beaten Edmond North, 35-0, in Week 2. The Bulldog defense looked stellar through the first two weeks firing shutouts at Southmoore and North before being run over to the tune of 57 points by Mustang just one week ago. Will the real Memorial defense step up this week?
Our Pick: Edmond Memorial 27, Edmond Santa Fe 24

Fort Gibson at Sallisaw
Our Take: (Class 4A) Key early district contest as Fort Gibson puts its unbeaten record on the line. The Tigers have one of the top rushers in Class 4A in sophomore Chris Walker, who has totaled 550 yards and 11 touchdowns already in 2014. Nobody has slowed down Fort Gibson, which has posted over 46 points a game offensively. Common opponents say Fort Gibson should win in a rout with a 44-27 win over Tahlequah while the Black Diamonds lost to the same team 32-7 a week ago. Games aren't played on paper though and Sallisaw is always a tough place to win.
Our Pick: Fort Gibson 21, Sallisaw 17

Grandfield at Tipton
Our Take: (Class C) Grandfield has been extremely impressive in a 3-0 start in which they have poured in almost 49 points a contest behind junior Mario Blanco and company while allowing just six in each game. None of those opponents can match the speed and athleticism that Tipton brings to the table. Senior QB Gerald White has picked up right where he left off in last year's 2,000-yard plus campaign, fueling an offense that has scored 48 points in each of their first three games. Grandfield is better but still not at Tipton's level.
Our Pick: Tipton 38, Grandfield 6
