Football Forecast: Week 3

Week 3
It wasn't a tremendous start for us in the season debut, batting just over .700 and it really didn't go very well in the Big Five where we nailed just one of five. But that's why they are called the Big Five. Hopefully this week holds better fortune and we get back some street cred.
Last Week: 123-52 (.703)
Season: 123-52 (.703)

The Big Five

Norman North vs. Westmoore
Our Take: (Class 6A) Big pre-district showdown between the nearby rivals. Norman North QB John Kolar has picked up right where he left off last season when he was thrust into starting duty. He has already thrown for nearly 500 yards and five touchdowns with a relatively new receiving corps. Westmoore counters with versatile Bryson Lee, who averages more than 300 total yards per contest and has scored six touchdowns. Both teams have solid defenses as well, which should make things interesting throughout.
Our Pick: Westmoore 23, Norman North 17

Heritage Hall at Davis
Our Take: (HH=3A; DHS=2A) Heritage Hall has put up some impressive rushing numbers through its first two contests with junior Terrell Love, who has rushed for 257 yards and seven scores, and Connor McGinnis with 239 yards on the ground. Those marks are good for most teams but usually not that flashy when it comes to defending 2A state champ Davis and it's wishbone attack. The Wolves have posted 52 points through two weeks but even more impressively allowed only six each against Vian and Sulphur. The rugged early season slate continues.
Our Pick: Davis 24, Heritage Hall 14

Pryor at McAlester
Our Take: (Class 5A) Pryor senior QB Brennon Barth has been the ringleader in the Tigers' impressive 2-0 start, accounting for 352 yards of total offense and six touchdowns. The defense has been stellar, yielding only one touchdown in two contests. That unit however faces by far its most difficult assignment to date this week with a McAlester unit that averages 40 points an outing. Dalton Wood is again the catalyst with 333 yards passing to go along with 161 on the ground. Then there's junior Rhyln Stephens with 314 yards rushing as well. A little too much firepower for the Tigers.
Our Pick: McAlester 42, Pryor 35

Cascia Hall at Millwood
Our Take: (CH=4A; MHS=2A) For the second straight year Millwood is riding all the momentum into Week 3 after another classic 20-14 win over Soul Bowl rival Douglass. Sophomore Corey Hornbeack keys the Falcons' attack and is coming off a big 246-yard effort against the Trojans. Things definitely won't get any easier this week with Class 4A power Cascia Hall coming to town. The Commandos are coming off a solid 31-23 come-from-behind win over Class 6A Bartlesville a week ago. Despite the difference in class size and areas of the state the two teams are complete strangers. Millwood defeated Cascia 31-7 in the 2001 championship back when Cascia was in 2A.
Our Pick: Millwood 24, Cascia Hall 23

Newcastle at Blanchard
Our Take: (NHS=4A; BHS=3A) Newcastle is off to one of its best starts in recent years with a high-scoring arsenal leading the charge, including a 45-13 blasting of arch-rival Tuttle a week ago. Senior signal-caller Casey Freeman has been lighting up foes to the tune of 482 yards passing and five touchdowns. Blanchard's 43-21 loss to Casady took a little of the luster off this one but the Lions will definitely be formidable at home with an extremely balanced offense that averages 198 yards a game through the air and 187 on the ground.
Our Pick: Newcastle 20, Blanchard 17

Yea, looks like they may have their G's mixed up there. I'm guessing they meant to have them swapped around.
