Football Forecast: Week 2

Week 2
Apologies to the viewers for being a week tardy with our Friday Forecast. We missed the first week of the season due to a slightly pulled hammy, but we're back to make our best guess for the 2014 season's games. We take an expanded look at the five biggest games of the week and provide our picks for all the games below.
Last Week: Injured (.000)
Season: 0-0 (.000)

The Big Five

Union vs. Jenks
Our Take: (Class 6A) Just another showdown in the long line of amazing matchups between the two 6A juggernauts that have combined to win the past 18 Class 6A titles in a row. Jenks put up gaudy numbers in a 66-20 trouncing of Bixby in Week 1 while Union dropped a 42-41 overtime nailbiter to Texas powerhouse Southlake Carroll at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Jenks won both meetings between the two clubs a year ago and is currently riding a 27-game winning streak. It will largely rest on standout QB Cooper Nunley as to whether the Trojans can continue that streak on another week.
Our Pick: Jenks 42, Union 38

Lawton Mac at Lawton
Our Take: (LM=5A; LHS=6A) Its the battle for Lawton and arguably the first major test for either squad with state title aspirations. Lawton pounded Salina, Kansas, 49-3, in Week 1 as the Wolverines didn't seem to miss a beat despite having to replace a big chunk of offense. Explosive Darreyl Patterson is the newest Lawton catalyst. MacArthur showed its prowess in the opener, going on the road to virtually manhandle Clinton, 43-6, in the Tornado Bowl, something that is rarely ever done. The Highlanders welcomed back eight starters on each side of the football and definitely have the focus to turn the tables after last season's 47-20 loss in this contest.
Our Pick: Lawton 35, Lawton Mac 24

Kingfisher at Hennessey
Our Take: (KHS=3A; HHS=2A) This is the fifth installment of this rivalry since it resumed in 2010. Hennessey is looking for its first win in the series since 1995 and has lost to the Jackets 10 straight times, including the last four years. Both teams are coming off impressive performances against 4A teams in Week 1. Kingfisher allowed just three first downs and forced six turnovers in a 38-0 win over Woodward. The Jackets feature a fearsome duo up front in DT Kaden Jackson and DE Jace Sternberger. Hennessey has its own dynamic duo in LBs Javy Renteria and Abe Ortega. Ortega was also a huge offensive threat in last week's 30-7 win at Elgin. Hennessey limited the Owls to four first downs and minus-33 total yards in the second half. Although Kingfisher won 31-0 last year, the games have generally been close. The Jackets' two wins at Hennessey are by a combined four points.
Our Pick: Kingfisher 21, Hennessey 13

Millwood at Douglass
Our Take: (MHS=2A; DHS=3A) Millwood ran away with a 31-12 win over its Soul Bowl rival a year ago with a stifling defensive effort. The Falcon defense will be hard-pressed to duplicate that effort against a more experienced Trojan offense that put a whopping 75 points on the board in its season opener. Junior Patrick McKaufman is a playmaking signal-caller that put up more than 2,000 yards through the air a year ago. Millwood is coming off a little tougher test in a 36-24 win against Star Spencer but has a tremendously talented dual threat of its own in senior Josh Little.
Our Pick: Millwood 28, Douglass 24

Pryor at Wagoner
Our Take: (PHS=5A; WHS=4A) Pryor hasn't beaten its nearby rival on the gridiron since 2003 but looks to have its best chance in years after a very impressive 28-3 win over 6A Claremore in the season opener. The Tigers have a dynamic playmaker in quarterback Brennon Barth while Wagoner counters with a high-scoring arsenal of its own, spurred by K.J. Lee, who rushed for three scores in last week's 41-33 triumph against another 5A club in Coweta. The Bulldogs have a plethora of weapons including senior signal-caller Jake Woodson.
Our Pick: Wagoner 28, Pryor 21
