School of the Year Final Results

After seeing a three-year run at the top of the Coaches Aid School of the Year standings end a year ago at the hands of rival Jenks, the Union Redskins rebounded in massive style with one of the top all-around athletic performances ever.

The Redskins amassed 181 team points in the scoring system to run away with high honors over second place Edmond Santa Fe’s 120. The 181-point total was the  second-best in the 13-year history of the CA School of the Year Awards, trailing only Jenks’ 189-point barrage in 2002.

It was a huge athletic year for all the Edmond schools as all three notched record scoring totals, all of which eclipsed the 100-point mark. In addition to Santa Fe’s 120 points, Edmond North posted 115 propelled by it’s baseball state title, while Edmond Memorial ended with an even 100 points.

Deer Creek wrapped up it’s best all-around season in SOY history with 100 points even, toppling second place Carl Albert by 10 points for the Class 5A championship. Shawnee finished another 13 points back in third.

Thanks to arguably the best athletic year in school history, Anadarko scored it’s first School of the Year title in Class 4A, finishing with 90 points. Cascia Hall was the only challenger to the Warriors even within 34 points, claiming second with 76.

One of the closest competitions came in Class 3A where Metro Christian won it’s initial SOY title as well thanks to capping that run with a baseball state runner-up finish. The Patriots totaled 75 points while Plainview was a close second with 70.

In Class 2A, it was a highly-successful athletic year across the board at Hennessey and the Eagles were able to transform that into their first School of the Year championship with 78 points, passing Northeast down the stretch after the Vikings held a lead after the winter sports campaign.

The narrowest title victory came in Class A as Frontier returned to the throne for the first time since 2004, picking up it’s third School of the Year title with 38 points. Okarche and Roff wrapped up in a tie for second with 36 points apiece while Velma-Alma was another five points back in fourth.

Red Oak once again utilized a big spring sports campaign, including baseball and slow pitch softball crowns to claim the Class B School of the Year championship for the fifth time in the past six years, including second straight.

The Eagles posted 67 points with second place Arnett ending with 54 for nip northwest rivals Hammon and Leedey for runner-up honors.
