Mount Rainier Lutheran completes major turnaround

When Ron Rasmus took over the Mount Rainier Lutheran boys basketball program last year, he inherited a team that had gone 2-37 the previous two seasons.

All that seemed a distant memory Thursday night when the Hawks beat Northwest Yeshiva, 49-38, to capture the Tacoma school's first basketball league championship.

Andrew Wolf scored 14 points and sophomore David Greenwood added 11 as Mount Rainier Lutheran (14-3) beat the team from Mercer Island to claim the Class 1B Sea-Tac League championship.

The Hawks, whose next game is against Auburn Adventist next Wednesday, are No. 8 in the Coaches Aid 1B state rankings.

Mount Rainier Lutheran's only losses this season have come to a 1A team and two 2B programs.
