Boys basketball

Pandora-Gilboa at Liberty Benton, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Opponents have scored 50 points or more only twice against the Eagles (13-0), who have kept foes in the 30s seven times or more.

Pandora-Gilboa (9-2), which fell out of the Coaches Aid Division IV ranks for the first time this season, might provide one of the biggest tests.

The Rockets have lost to Kalida (39-33) and McComb (66-64) this season. Both teams are regulars in the top 10 poll as P-G plays a shutdown defense similar to the Eagles.

Chaminade-Julienne at Alter at the Nutter Center, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

C-J (12-1) is coming off a big seven point win over Bishop Fenwick that saw the Eagles rally from a halftime deficit behind strong play from Jon Bibbs and Joe Staley.

Undefeated in the Greater Catholic League, Chaminade-Julienne faces an Alter team not afraid of a fight.

The Knights are looking to snap a two-game skid after beating Purcell Marian. The first time these two met, C-J won by 17.

St. Edward at University of Detroit Jesuit, Saturday, 3 p.m.

The Eagles (10-3) find their way back to the Coaches Aid Division I poll after impressive wins over Benedictine, St. Ignatius, Villa Angela-St. Joseph and St. Paris Graham.

Matt Stainbrook and James Price will have their hands full against a Cubs squad coming off a big 73-70 overtime win over Birmingham Brother Rice.

Cameron Fowler is the one to watch for U-D and could stretch the defense of St. Edward, which is trying to make it back to the state semifinals for the third time in four seasons.

Girls basketball

Kenton Ridge at St. Paris Graham, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

The Cougars (12-2) fill up the bucket early and often having scored 63 points or more nine times this season.

The Falcons (9-4) prefer a much slower pace.

In its nine wins, Graham has held foes to 41 points or less five times.

Magnificat at Hathaway Brown, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

To no one’s surprise, the Blazers (11-4) are finding success with Alexis Dobbs and Mylan Woods.

The reigning state champions won three of their last four, dispatching Hoban, Lakota West and Canfield along the way.

Magnificat (10-4) comes in having won six of its last seven.

Chaminade-Julienne vs. Alter at the Nutter Center, Friday, 6 p.m.

Like their counterpart on the boys’ side, the Knights (13-0) have a big hill to climb in a foe named the Eagles (11-5).

And just like the boys, they face a fight.

C-J has won eight of its last nine games and count a win over four-time defending state champion Mount Notre Dame.

Wrestling

Moeller at Elder, Thursday, 7 p.m.

The right for Cincinnati supremacy finally comes to a head as these two have fought tooth and nail with each other all season.

The Panthers (9-0) can’t get caught looking ahead to a triangular at Harrison with Mason or the Crusaders (4-2), which won the big school division at the Catholic Invitational Tournament, can jump up and get them.

St. Mary Central Catholic Duals, Friday and Saturday

In the D-III ranks, this one doesn’t get any better.

The 15th installment includes the No. 1 team in the small school division in Monroeville, No. 4 Cuyahoga Heights and No. 5 West Jefferson along with Milan Edison and defending state champion Troy Christian.

Lexington/Padua at St. Ignatius, Saturday, 7 p.m.

It doesn’t get much better than this in Northeast Ohio wrestling this weekend.

The Wildcats are ranked sixth in Division I by CA and welcome in No. 3 Lexington and No. 4 Padua in the D-II ranks.

Blair Academy, NJ, at St. Paris Graham, Saturday, 7 p.m.

The Falcons (6-0) know how to put a schedule together.

After an impressive dual win over 13-time defending D-I state champion St. Edward, Graham will take on Lexington and Blair Academy.

The Falcons are ranked No. 3 by Amateur Wrestling News and will welcome in the No. 1 team in the nation in the Buccaneers, who are the reigning Ironman champions.
