Here are some top performers from last week's Illinois high school sports scene:
Mark McDonagh of Riverside-Brookfield set a state record with 25 catches in his team's 48-7 win over Elmwood Park. McDonagh's catches went for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate quarterback Bill VandeMerkt also broke a state record by throwing his 646th career completion. He finished the game 36 of 49 for 434 yards and four touchdowns.
St. Rita running back Jahwon Akui had 38 carries for 261 yards and four touchdowns in Rita's 34-19 win over Bishop McNamara.
Defensive back Peter Houlihan of Providence had an 80-yard punt return and a 90-yard kickoff return in a 25-16 win over St. Laurence.
Running back Nick Pesek of Oak Lawn gained 312 yards in just 13 carries and scored four times in a 41-22 decision over Argo.
Unbeaten Lexington got 337 yards and five touchdowns from T.J. Stinde in a 38-2 win over Tremont. Stinde has 21 touchdowns in five games this season.
Teammates Brock Wheatly and Tyler Rock combined for five touchdowns in Sesser-Valier's 46-0 win over Christopher. Wheatly had two touchdowns and 136 yards rushing. Rock had 118 yards and three touchdowns.
Hoopeston Area won for the first time since the last game of the 2007 season with a 21-7 win over Danville Schlarman. Zach Thrasher had a 58-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to start the scoring for Hoopeston.
Bushnell-Prairie City running back Trey Yocum rushed from 221 yards on 15 attempts in a 42-6 win over South Fulton. Yocum scored four touchdowns, including scoring runs of 75 and 68 yards.
The Cartersville defense recorded its fourth consecutive shutout in a 41-0 victory over Johnston City.
Seneca teammates Josh Higgins and Tyler Hovious each scored three times in a 42-6 over Westmont.
Illini West quarterback Michael Lafferty threw six touchdown passes to lead his team to a 55-0 win over Rushville-Industry.
