Charlton County’s Hamilton shines with 311 yards rushing in win

By ANDY JOHNSTON

Check back every Tuesday for a look at the top performers throughout Georgia from the previous week.

Tre Hamilton, RB, Charlton County: Hamilton, a 5-6, 155-pound sophomore, had 19 carries for 311 yards and TD runs of 8, 5 and 71 yards to lead the Indians to a 38-36 victory over Pierce County. He also scored three 2-point conversions. His 311 yards rushing is the third-best single-game effort in school history. He’s behind two performances from Champ Bailey, who rushed for 417 yards on Nov. 3, 1995 and 317 yards on Nov. 17, 1995.

Jefferson county B.J. Bostic

Jefferson County quarterback B.J. Bostic has committed to Georgia Tech.

B.J. Bostic, QB, Jefferson County: Bostic, who has committed to Georgia Tech, didn’t have his usual outstanding yardage numbers, but he was in the middle of the scoring in Jefferson County’s 27-17 victory over Toombs County. The Warriors rallied from a 17-3 deficit behind 20 fourth-quarter points. Bostic had an 80-yard kickoff return to set up a score, moved to receiver for a play and caught a 66-yard TD pass, broke up a fourth-and-10 pass as a defensive back and then scored on a 16-yard run for the final touchdown.

C.J. Uzomah, QB, North Gwinnett: Uzomah, the hero of the Bulldogs’ season-opening victory over nationally ranked Prattville, Ala., was 16-for-23 for 263 yards and three touchdowns in three quarters of a 42-7 victory over South Forsyth on Friday. He completed passes to seven different receivers, threw TD strikes of 15, 43 and 36 yards and scored on an 8-yard run.

Robert Williams, RB, Houston County: Williams has been one of the top backs in the state this season, and continued his strong year with 229 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-14 victory over Bradwell Institute. Williams, who is 6-foot, 205 pounds, is being recruited by smaller schools, coach Greg Robinson said. Williams has 672 yards and nine TDs in just three games.

Terrell Brigham, QB, Burke County: Brigham continued his excellent career by leading the Bears to a 35-17 victory over Statesboro. He rushed 18 times for 125 yards, scoring on runs of 15, 9 and 14 yards, and threw for 87 as the Bears beat the state-ranked Blue Devils. Burke County has three consecutive victories over teams from Region 2-AAAA.

Shaqueal McAfee, RB, Sonoraville: McAfee, a 5-9, 160-pound senior, had 25 carries for 282 yards and three fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Phoenix rallied for a 26-21 victory over Southeast Whitfield. All three of McAfee’s touchdowns came in the fourth as he scored on runs of 18, 62 and 11 yards to help Sonoraville rally from a 21-0 deficit.

Josh Morgan, QB, Lafayette: The 6-5, 190-pound junior was 22 of 32 for 281 yards and three touchdowns as the Ramblers improved to 3-0 with a 31-0 victory over Murray County. Morgan threw TD passes of 40, 20 and 1 yards and completed passes to nine different receivers. His favorite target was Dimitri Miles, who had seven catches for 123 yards.

Quartterio Morgan, RB, Mount Zion-Jonesboro: Morgan ran wild in the Bulldogs’ 65-6 victory over Forest Park, rushing for 215 yards and two TDs on only 17 carries. The 5-11, 200-pound senior, also scored on a 67-yard kickoff return. Morgan has rushed for more than 200 yards in all three games this year. He had 204 yards in a 40-10 victory over Shiloh on Sept. 4 and 201 in the opener.

Tyson Smith, WR, Gainesville: The Red Elephants played a little switcheroo with Smith and QB Blake Sims, who has committed to Alabama. Smith took several snaps in a 42-20 victory over White County and threw TD passes of 71 and 77 yards to Sims, caught TD passes of 16 and 11 yards from Sims, and added 36 yards rushing on three carries. “Tyson’s just one of those guys,” Gainesville coach Bruce Miller told the Gainesville Times. “He can do so many things; he’s a complete player.”

Arsenio Watkins, QB, Dooly County: Watkins scored the Bobcats’ final three TDs as they rallied from a 14-point hole and defeated Northeast Macon, 32-26. The final score came on Watkins’ 10-yard TD pass to Keith Mumphrey on the last play of the game. Watkins was 19 of 31 for 243 yards and four TDs and rushed 20 times for 149 yards and another score. His TD run covered 44 yards.
