We're two weeks away from the Show-Me Bowl for all classes, and there are great matchups in all six classes with Class 6 kicking off tonight and tomorrow when Classes 1-5 get underway. After a 7-1 record last week picking the Class 6 opening round, I'm making predictions on all the quarterfinal games. Don't like what you see? Share your thoughts and predictions with me at freddavis@coachesaid.com.
Class 1
Valle Catholic at Miller
Fred Says: Valle Catholic, quarterback Michael Greminger is a beast and will prove so again Saturday.
Tipton at Adrian
Fred Says: The Tipton defense is tough, and after shutting down University Academy last week, Tipton rolls again to the semifinals.
Marceline at Wellington-Napoleon
Fred Says: Well-Nap in the closest game in Class 1, Marceline is a well-coached football team, but I like the experience of Well-Nap quarterback Caleb Crop to be the difference.
Penney at Mid-Buchanan
Fred Says: After steamrolling Orrick on Monday, Mid-Buchanan isn't getting in the way now.
Class 2
Caruthersville at Brentwood
Fred Says: I like Brentwood because of the quarterback/running back tandem of Tywon Brooks and Andrew Erby, not to mention Brentwood has played a tough schedule to get to the quarters.
Centralia at Clark County
Fred Says: Knocking out the defending champs at their place won't be easy, but Centralia has the guys to do it and with quarterback Scott Rodgers at the helm.
Lamar at Fair Grove
Fred Says: Fair Grove running back Caleb Schaffitzel is one of the best backs in the state and he'll get his team one step closer to St. Louis.
Hogan Prep at Maryville
Fred Says: The Spoofhounds D has been dominant all year and that won't stop against Hogan Prep.
Class 3
Central at Priory
Fred Says: While I like Central's Kony Ealy, I like the run Priory is making and I especially like Matt Jones to come up big with another upset.
Mexico at Bowling Green
Fred Says: Unlike Priory, Mexico's magical run ends Saturday against Bowling Green.
Cassville at Logan-Rogersville
Fred Says: The evolution of the Log-Rog football program will take another serious step Saturday under Doug Smith with a win over the defending state champs. Doesn't hurt that the game is in Rogersville.
O'Hara at Pleasant Hill
Fred Says: Both teams had to grind out wins on Monday, but the Celtics have enough left to win on the road.
Class 4
Ladue Horton Watkins at Sikeston
Fred Says: Sikeston stays unbeaten and moves on to the Semis.
Helias at Normandy
Fred Says: Can Normandy stop the option? If they can, they win. I don't think they will, and I like Helias in this game to win, but it will come down to the fourth quarter.
Webb City at Bolivar
Fred Says: My upset special of the week, Bolivar had its chances last year against Webb City and didn't take advantage, but I think this year, Lance Roweton's group is mentally stronger and will pull off the biggest upset of the playoffs.
Harrisonville at Kearney
Fred Says: This will be a close game, but Kearney is rolling after blanking Staley Monday and I expect them to play well in front of the home crowd.
Class 5
Chaminade at Webster Groves
Fred Says: I wouldn't be surprised if Webster Groves lost this game after Monday's 36-25 win over Eureka, but the Statesmen have too much talent on both sides of the ball, and if they play smart and eliminate mistakes, they'll be fine.
Parkway North at Parkway Central
Fred Says: The Vikings won this game 41-10 in district play, but that was with Anthony Gatti. He's out with an ACL injury and I like the Colts to run the ball better this time around and exact revenge at home.
Raytown South at Nixa
Fred Says: The Cardinals are balling right now and after they put on a display throwing the ball against Ozark thanks to Dennis Tanner, Nixa doesn't have the speed to keep up with the Cardinals.
Fort Osage at Raymore-Peculiar
Fred Says: The cream of the KC Metro will be in full effect Saturday afternoon, and I like Fort Osage to continue its winning ways with RB EJ Gaines and QB Ed Pearl and get past the Panthers at home and set up a rematch with Raytown South.
Class 6
Fox at Oakville
Fred Says: I'm not worried about Fox losing to Oakville in district play, 19-13. Quarterback Bobby Mahoney did not play well that game and the Fox defense rose up to beat previously unbeaten Lindbergh last week to get to this point, I like Fox to beat Oakville in the quarters for the second year in a row.
Lafayette at Hazelwood Central
Fred Says: The Hawks are rolling right now and Kerry Gibson is making plays. The Central D continues to shine and no reason they don't against Lafayette.
Jefferson City at DeSmet
Fred Says: DeSmet's toughest game of the season to date, Jeff City will bang with the Spartans like no other team has this year. Question is - can they bang back. I think they can and will win a close one.
Blue Springs at Rockhurst
Fred Says: The hardest game to predict of any of the quarterfinal games, both of these teams are smoking right now, and The Rock beat Blue Springs in week three at the Wildcats place, 17-3. While Blue Springs is playing lights out football right now, Rock is getting better play from its quarterback, Frank Arbanas, than it was in week three and the 6-5 junior will be the difference tonight. Rock wins a close one.
