Key games dot Keystone state

Mount Union at Bishop McCourt, Friday, 7 p.m.

Bishop McCourt (9-0) is coming off a 48-13 win over Bedford in a game in which it led 34-7 at halftime.

In the win, Joshua Seidel (102 yards rushing), and Chaz Merriman (100 yards rushing) each ran for a touchdown for the Crushers.

Mount Union (7-3) won 28-6 last week against Moshannon Valley. Mydell Loner ran for 212 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Spring Grove at Central Dauphin, Friday, 7 p.m.

Central Dauphin (8-2) is coming off a 38-35 win over Cumberland Valley. In that game, quarterback Lewis Correale completed 13-of-18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown, while Colton Charles rushed for 130 yards and a score on 22 carries.

Spring Grove (6-4) defeated Dover 48-19 last week. Bobby Bailey rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries in the win.

Aliquippa vs. South Fayette at Chartiers Valley, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

The Quipps (9-1) have four times as many postseason wins as South Fayette (10-0), but it’s the Lions that come in as the WPIAL’s No. 1 seed in the Class AA playoffs.

Look for Christian Brumbaugh, who will likely go over 2,000 yards passing to give Aliquippa all it can handle.

He’s thrown for 26 touchdowns this season and that leads the WPIAL.

Keystone Oaks vs. Mount Pleasant at Penn Trafford, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

The Golden Eagles (9-1) have what every school wants.

Two 1,000-yard backs in Matt McCann and Jordan Maddox.

The Vikings (10-0) have an undefeated mark and a chance to make it to the Class AA semifinals for the first time since 1996.

Something’s got to give.

North Catholic vs. Springfield at Deer Lakes, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

This tasty Class A quarterfinal gem is a rematch of a game earlier in the year won by North 20-14.

The Trojans (8-2) are hot, having won eight games in a row after losing its first two.

They’ll need to get some big production out of freshman sensation Sean Dugan if they want to beat the Dynamos (8-2).

Springfield is coming off a tough win to open the postseason against Monessen. It clipped the Greyhounds 21-14 in that contest.

Bok Tech vs. Lower Moreland at Southern High, Saturday, noon

Bok Tech (9-0), which won the public school league, will face Lower Moreland (7-4), the champion of District 1, in a rematch of last year’s postseason game won by Lower Moreland, 55-0.

Bok Tech is led by running back Khalil Neal and quarterback Andre Frazier. Meantime, Lower Moreland, which has won its past four games, features running back John Founds and Mike Trentalange.

Chestnut Hill at Malvern Prep, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Chestnut Hill (9-0) held off Haverford, 27-21, last week in overtime. The Blue Devils led 14-0 through three quarters before Malvern rallied with three touchdowns in the fourth.

Ibraheirn Campbell had touchdown runs of 5, 16, 10 and 10 yards, the latter of which was the game-winner in overtime.

Malvern Prep improved to 4-4 following a 35-14 win over Germantown Academy. The Friars have won three of their last four games after starting the season 1-3.

West Catholic vs. Bishop McDevitt at Southern High, Saturday, 4 p.m.

A week after West Catholic posted a 35-7 victory over Bishop McDevitt to win its second straight Catholic League Class AA title, the teams will meet in the PIAA District 1-12 Class AA sub-regional playoffs.

West Catholic (8-2), which is seeded second, is led by senior quarterback Jarred Evans, who completed 7-of-10 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns. West also features junior running back Joshua Mathis, who ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns against the Lancers.

It will be imperative Bishop McDevitt (9-1) gets better play from its offense, which mustered just 111 yards of total offense.

LaSalle vs. Cardinal O’Hara at Plymouth Whitemarsh, Saturday, 7 p.m.

LaSalle defeated Cardinal O’Hara, 24-10, to end the regular season last week, but which team will win the meeting that matters most?

LaSalle (8-1), which has won its past five games, is led by quarterback Drew Loughery and running back Jamal Abdur-rahman, who power an offense that averages 31 points per game.

Cardinal O’Hara (8-2), which has lost two of its past three games, features running back Corey Brown and quarterback Ryan Laughlin, who fuel an offense that averages 35 points per game.
