Ryan McGriff, quarterback, Gainesville: The junior was 21-for-40 passing for 445 yards and six touchdowns in a 55-24 win over Lake Weir that gave the Hurricanes the 4A-District 5 title. In the third quarter alone, McGriff threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns. He threw six TDs in a game against Brooksville Central earlier this year as well.
Eddie Sullivan, quarterback, Boca Raton: The Wake Forest commitment passed for 371 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 89 yards and a score in a 52-35 win against Park Vista, clinching the District 8-6A title for the Bobcats.
Tre Mason, running back, Park Vista: Yes, the Boca Raton-Park Vista game last week saw two performances good enough to get on our Hot List (see above). Mason, a junior, rushed for 306 yards and four touchdowns in the 52-35 loss to the Bobcats. Mason’s scores came from 80, 44, 63 and 3 yards.
Kadron Boone, kick returner/punt returner, Ocala Trinity Catholic: Boone, who also plays wide receiver and has committed to Texas Tech, returned two kickoffs for touchdowns (87, 88 yards) and a punt for a TD (73 yards) in a 66-21 win over Mount Dora. This season, Boone has 14 touchdowns on both offense and special teams.
Gideon Ajagbe, running back, Ransom Everglades: The Florida commitment was a terror on offense and defense in his team’s 17-14 win over Pope John Paul. At running back, he rushed for 174 yards on 36 carries with two TDs. As a linebacker, he had 10 tackles, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. Ajagbe is projected as a linebacker at the next level.
Sony Michel, running back, Plantation American Heritage: The eighth-grader continued his amazing year by rushing 32 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots’ 36-27 over Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons for 2A-District 8 title. Michel has 1,275 yards on 155 carries with 14 touchdowns this season.
Zack Wynn, quarterback, Hudson: Wynn was truly a do-it-all for the Cobras in their 20-18 win over Wiregrass Ranch. Wynn scored all 20 Cobras points on two rushing touchdowns (2 yards, 1 yard), two extra points and two field goals, including a 23-yarder with 1:18 to play. He also finished 15-for-31 for 214 yards passing and Hudson grabbed a playoff spot with a runner-up finish in Class 4A-District 6.
Ed Smith, running back, Southwest Miami: Smith ran for 236 yards and scored five touchdowns in a 46-21 win over Hialeah Gardens. Smith only needed nine carries to reach 200 yards on the night and then sat out most of the second half.
Caleb Jones, running back, Lake Placid: Jones had 19 carries for career-highs of 219 yards and the five touchdowns in a 55-0 win over Gateway Charter. Jones scored on runs of 35, 15, 11, 7 and 8 yards. He has 1,227 yards for the season with one game remaining. The Dragons are 5-4, meaning they will not have a losing record for the first time in 11 years.
Javon Bell, receiver, Jacksonville Ribault: Bell hauled on a 33-yard touchdown pass on the final play to send Ribault to a 27-21 win over rival Raines on Saturday. Bell scored all four Ribault TDs – he has 19 receiving TDs on the year -- and finished with five catches for 146 yards. Ribault's win forced a three-way tie in District 2-2A on with Baker County and Raines, but Ribault lost in the tiebreaker on Monday.
