High school football player dies at practice
COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Students at Marion County High are mourning the sudden death of a football player who died after collapsing at practice.
- The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports Wednesday that senior
- lineman Erick Gutierrez was pronounced dead shortly after collapsing
- on Tuesday evening.
Marion County principal Glenn Tidwell said he was taken to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Hospital in Americus, Ga., after coaches performed CPR.
He said the cause of death would be determined by an autopsy and there aren't any answers right now.
The Marion County football team has moved its game against Schley County from Friday to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tidwell said Gutierrez played for Marion County all four years and would be missed by teammates and classmates. He said the teen was an easygoing and well-mannered kid who everybody loved.
