It seems like only a few short weeks ago, a big sidebar for the football season was summer’s extended stay. What had been a colder-than-average summer gave way to balmy temperatures in September, and Friday night football games often were met with unseasonable warmth – and even oppressive heat in a few cases.
Well, Mother Nature has regained her fastball, and the result is a return to a more realistic Minnesota fall.
Put away the shorts and flip-flops, and break out the winter coats, hats and boots. Simply put, it’s cold out there. So unlike the first few weeks of the football season, heat won’t be a factor for tonight’s games. Just the opposite, in fact, as bitter cold sets in across the state.
Snow has hit the ground, and, in some areas, stuck around. Week 6 featured a cadre of games being played in 30-degree weather, and tonight, it will only get worse.
A sampling of expected game-time temps, courtesy of weather.com:
Eden Prairie at Hopkins: Actual temperature 43 degrees; will feel like 38.
Sauk Rapids-Rice at Sartell-St. Stephen: Actual temperature 40 degrees; will feel like 34.
Foley at Albany: Actual temperature 39 degrees; will feel like 32.
Bemidji at Moorhead: Actual temperature 38 degrees (with rain/snow showers); will feel like 32.
Hibbing at International Falls: Actual temperature 34 degrees (with rain/snow showers); will feel like 29.
Silver Bay at Orr: Actual temperature 34 degrees; will feel like 34.
Barnum at Ely: Actual temperature 36 degrees; will feel like 33.

So there you have it. Dress warm, bring that thermos and huddle up.
It’s gonna be a cold one out there.
