Wright Pursues History

By David Hoffman

CoachesAid.com Nevada Content Coordinator

History may be made, the playoff surge begins in earnest, and someone scored a touchdown by running 99 yards! Who? This week’s Hot List has the answers… read on and may your week be filled with lots of great games. Of course, these Hot Listers make everything look easy…

Katelyn Wright

Incline's Katelyn Wright is shooting for her fourth 2A State golf title this week at Geboa Lakes.

Girls Golf

KATELYN WRIGHT, Incline

The Highlander senior is gunning for her fourth state 2A golf title. Nevada sports lore will have another hero to admire if Wright can out play everyone yet again. Good Luck Katey and hopefully the weather will be an ally as you pursue history. Wright is in first place after firing a first round 72 at Genoa Lakes Monday.

Girls Volleyball

AUBREY MITCHELL, Reno

She’s leader on and off the court, but definitely a major talent on the court. Huskies are playoff bound and Mitchell ranks among the best of them. She’ll have the chance to ply her wares in a big showdown match with McQueen.

See for yourself: Reno at McQueen, Thursday, 6 p.m.

JOURDAN BURKE, Douglas

The #5 ranked Tigers have been rolling of late, giving top ranked Manogue all they could handle before losing in five games. Burke is one of the reasons Douglas has been smiling win after win after win after win…you get the idea. They win a lot.

See for yourself: Wooster at Douglas, Tuesday, 6 p.m.

LACY MIYAHIRA, Centennial

She can sky and hit with anyone, anywhere. If there has been someone lately who has been the Bulldog standard bearer, she is it. Of course we should mention her talented teammates Naramin Hollowy, Morgan Vieira, oh well we will be hot listing them soon.

See for yourself: Centennial at Cheyenne, Monday, 5 p.m.

SANDRA ARNETT, Bishop Manogue

Sure the Anxo sisters get a lot of pub, but don’t forget Arnett when it comes time for all league honors. She keeps playing this well all-state is not out of reach.

See for yourself: Manogue at South Tahoe, Thursday, 6 p.m.

Football

LEGACY LONGHORN DEFENSE

Usually we honor individual athletes in the hot list BUT we are going to honor the entire Legacy defense for the effort they put out in their 7-6 win over Palo. Never thought the powerful and talented Palo offense would be held without a TD in any game. Yet the Longhorns did it. Can they do it again against Cheyenne and Jordan Butler this week?

See for yourself: Legacy at Cheyenne, Friday, 7 p.m.

DENVER OTTESON, Tonopah

Tonopah’s all everything athlete Otteson was THE MAN last week as he rushed for 199 yards and scored a whopping five TDS. He scored on runs of 63,16,53,2, and 1 yard. He also threw for a touchdown and booted 4 PATS. He had a hand in 40 of the Muckers 49 points.

See for yourself: Tonopat Round Mountain, Friday, p.m.

KELEN WEISS, Moapa Valley

Had a big game for the Pirates against 4A Foothill hitting on 12 of 16 passing for 258 yards and four touchdowns. This week it’s finally time for a Southern 3A “King of the Mountain” showdown as Weiss and the Pirates are at Boulder City.

See for yourself: Moapa at Boulder City, Friday, 7 p.m.

James Poole, Cimarron Running Back

Cimarron's James Poole has given opposing defenses more to worry about than just teammate Stephen Nixon

JAMES POOLE, Cimarron

Okay, maybe everyone thought this was Stephen Nixon’s year to really shine but no one bothered to tell Mr. Poole who has been every bit as good for the Spartans. How good? Last week Poole rushed for 260 yards and scored on runs of 47, 32, 79 and 55 yards. That’s not just good, that’s worthy of the Hot List.

See for yourself: Mojave at Cimarron, Friday, 7 p.m.

DARRION GARRY, ROP

They are the undefeated “Top Dog” in 2A. Garry showed last week why they are not only hot as a team (6-0) but why he is on the Hot List. Okay, get this, Garry scored on a 99 yard run. 99YARDS! Are you kidding me? How does that happen? Then he returns a kickoff 75 yards for a score. To top it off he completes 6 of 9 and throws for two more scores, and yes folks he’s a quarterback not a running back. It’s no wonder ROP is at the top.

See for yourself: ROP at Battle Mountain, Friday, 6:30 p.m.

LOGAN ESPINOSA, Mineral County

Okay, I’m a believer. Espinosa had 314 yards of total offense this week. He had 336 yards of total offense last week. Geez, the guy has had a season’s worth of stats in two weeks. If he can pull it off this week we should all bow down and pay homage. Of course this week it’s “Big Bad Coleville” at their place. GULP!

See for yourself: Mineral County at Coleville, Saturday 1 p.m.
